Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), a leading Chinese battery manufacturer, has unveiled a groundbreaking electric bus battery with an impressive service life. The newly launched Tianxing B-series battery boasts a remarkable 15-year lifespan and is claimed to endure up to 1.5 million kilometers.

Designed specifically for the electric bus sector, the Tianxing B-series battery represents a major advance in energy storage technology. It features an IP69 rating, allowing it to withstand up to 72 hours of water immersion, demonstrating its durability under extreme conditions. This innovation is part of CATL’s commercial vehicle battery brand, Tectrans, also known as Tianxing.

CATL, the world’s largest power battery maker with a 37.6 percent global market share between January and July, has collaborated with 13 vehicle companies to prepare for the mass production of this new battery. The company’s efforts in the commercial vehicle battery market were further highlighted in July with the launch of Tectrans, which includes two L-series batteries designed for logistics and distribution. These models feature supercharging capabilities, achieving a 60 percent charge in just 12 minutes, alongside a long-range version, as reported by CNEV Post.

According to Interesting Engineering, the Tianxing B-series battery sets a new benchmark with an energy density of 175 Wh/kg. It integrates advanced technologies such as Cell to Pack (CTP) 3.0 and a dual-layer large-surface liquid cooling system. These innovations enhance energy density, improve thermal management, and reduce battery weight, thereby extending range performance.

In the press release, CATL emphasized the company’s commitment to transforming the commercial vehicle sector through technological advancements, claiming they aim to maximize the value of the commercial vehicle industry through innovation, reliability, and strategic planning. CATL’s new technology promises significant improvements in service life, efficiency, and profitability for commercial vehicle users.
