Ukrainian defense technology firm Ukrspecsystems has introduced its latest unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), the Shark-M, a versatile drone designed for long-range reconnaissance and as a signal repeater for strike drones. Building on the capabilities of its predecessor, the Shark-D, the Shark-M boasts several key enhancements that make it ideal for modern military operations.
With a wingspan of 3.4 meters, the Shark-M retains the same size as the Shark-D, but its upgraded communication system allows for an extended range of up to 180 kilometers. This expanded range makes the Shark-M suitable for long-distance missions, providing vital support for operations deep behind enemy lines.
According to the Defense Post, tahe Shark-M measures 165 centimeters in length, with a height of 30 centimeters. It can fly at speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour, reaching altitudes of up to 3,000 meters, and has a range of approx. 300 km. The UAV is launched via a catapult system, allowing it to take off from any location without the need for a traditional runway, and uses a parachute for a soft landing, reducing potential damage.
The Shark-M is equipped with a powerful battery system that offers up to seven hours of flight time—an impressive 170% increase in battery capacity compared to previous UAV models. This enables the drone to operate day and night, regardless of weather conditions, ensuring continuous operational support.
The drone is equipped with a 360-degree rotating camera and sensors capable of detecting targets up to 35 kilometers away during the day and 14 kilometers at night. Its universal connector allows for integration with various gyro-stabilized electro-optical systems for enhanced target acquisition.
The Shark-M features a radio modem that is 250% stronger than its predecessor to enhance resilience against electronic warfare, as well as an upgraded ground control station. The Shark-M includes an extension kit that positions the antenna away from personnel and features a remote-control terminal, enhancing safety for the operators.
With its advanced capabilities, the Shark-M is poised to become a key asset for military forces requiring high-performance UAV support for both reconnaissance and electronic warfare missions.
