The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency announced recently that it will receive the HK416 Assault Rifle, under an order worth 22 million Euro throughout 36 months. The Norwegian Armed Forces were the first to adopt the HK416 back in 2007.
Although the design of the Heckler & Koch HK416 is in large part based on the AR-15 class of weapons, specifically the Colt M4 carbine family issued to the U.S. military, it uses an HK-proprietary short-stroke gas piston system originally derived from the ArmaLite AR-18 (the same system was also used in Heckler & Koch’s earlier G36 family of rifles). It is a modern and highly modular assault rifle for law enforcement and military users. It can be tailored in accordance with the requirements of the relevant customer and that will not reduce at all its accuracy and handling safety, according to bulgarianmilitary.com.
Heckler & Koch has equipped many European Armies with a standard assault rifle for decades. Some of the users are Norway (HK416), France (HK416AIF), Spain (G36), Germany (G36), Lithuania (G36), Latvia (G36) and the UK (SA80A2/A3). In addition, there is quite a large number of military and police commando units that have adopted one or several weapon models manufactured by Heckler & Koch.
The German company is one of the global leaders in the field of manufacturing small arms. There are subsidiaries in the US, France and the UK. The company has been a reliable partner to security forces, the police and special forces of NATO and NATO-associated states for more than 60 years. Heckler & Koch is the only supplier of small arms to offer a comprehensive range of products incorporating pistols, machine pistols, assault rifles, precision rifles, machine guns, training systems, as well as 40 mm systems.
