UN Special Event Celebrates Israeli R&D and Innovation

Israeli technology and innovation were at the heart of the celebratory event on the occasion of Israel’s 70th anniversary held at the UN headquarters in New York between May 30-31. The event focused on Israeli innovation and on the way that Israel has been changing the world.
Israel’s permanent representative to the UN Danny Danon, Eli Cohen, Minister of Economy and Industry, and some 800 diplomats, representatives from the defense establishment and the defense industries and business persons attended the event.
The event, organized by the Ministry of Economy, The Israel Export Institute and Israel’s delegation to the UN, included presentations about Israeli innovation. Dr. Daniel Gold, Head of Israel’s Defense Research and Development Directorate (DDR&D, MAFAAT) who had led the Iron Dome development project, presented Israeli innovation in the defense, cyber and high-tech fields, especially Iron Dome. He elaborated on the complex interception system, civil aviation aircraft capable of diverting rockets and missiles by a laser beam, missiles that destroy targets in space, and more.
The Minister of Economy and Industry Eli Cohen spoke about the unique achievements and the exceptional excellence Israel has achieved thanks to “the acknowledgment of the importance of research, development, innovation, and mainly human resources. We have become a fountain of creativity and innovation and a technological hub that serves as an inspiration to the world and a source of national pride for ourselves. We strive to share Israeli technology and innovation with the world for the benefit of humanity,” as reported by israelhayom.co.il.
iHLS will host for the first time the prestigious Startup Competition for innovative technologies in the security, defense, and homeland security fields, the only startup event in this sector.
The Startup Competition will be held on July 11, 2018, in Tel-Aviv.
