An advanced perimeter security system has been recently certified by the US Air Force. The fence-mounted system detects and locates any attempt to cut, climb or break through the fence and instantly triggers an alarm system.

The FlexZone technology was developed by the Canadian company Senstar to protect critical assets at bases worldwide. The intrusion detection sensor joins the company’s microwave-based and buried cable intrusion detection systems on the air force’s approved equipment list, according to obi.ca.

Senstar’s tech is currently installed at more than 100 air force sites including airfields, maintenance areas and bases.

The FlexZone system includes a processor and sensor cable. The processor is installed on the fence and is connected to the sensor cable and the existing security system.

The weather-proof sensor cable is attached to the fence all the way around the perimeter, including swinging and sliding gates. Using signals generated by the minute flexing of its loose tube coaxial sensor cable, FlexZone detects and locates movement of the fence.

When it detects an intrusion, the security system is triggered. High-speed sampling ensures that the FlexZone processor captures a precise picture of the fence signal and enables advanced algorithms to discriminate between intrusion signals and environmental noise. This maximizes the probability of detection while virtually eliminating nuisance alarms caused by environmental effects such as wind or rain. FlexZone continues to function even in the event of a cut cable.
