Campcopter Returns To Refugee Rescue Support

For the third year running, Vienna-based Schiebel Group’s CAMCOPTER S-100 will be providing substantial support operations for the Migrant Offshore Aid Station (MOAS) project, a global search-and-rescue charity organisation.

Over the past two year, more than ten thousand men, women, and children have been saved from death by drowning on their way from North Africa to Europe. This impressive humanitarian success owes a large part of its success to the support of Schiebel’s CAMCOPTER S-100.

The S-100 provides real-time visible spectrum and infrared video which enables the MOAS personnel to accurately locate, track, and rescue persons in emergency situations. The S-100 is particularly crucial in rough sea conditions, at night, and for covering areas beyond the horizon, allowing the MOAS crew to significantly increase its operational range.

As the number of migrants attempting to cross the Mediterranean in the coming months is expected to rise sharply, the privately-financed MOAS project has committed to operations through 2016. MOAS’ 40-metre MY Phoenix recently set sail from Valetta, Malta, with the Schiebel CAMCOPTER S-100 on board.

The S-100 presents itself as an ideal choice for search and rescue in maritime conditions and provides invaluable assistance to the project. To this end, Schiebel provides MOAS with a CAMCOPTER S-100 system and an experienced team to fly it.
