One of the more complicated issues of security organizations in various countries is checking the real contents and belonging of hundreds of thousands of containers in ports and in the sea. Some of these containers pertain to various smuggling deals – of drugs, weapons and even people.

HTS began as a developer of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) technologies. The HTS software, combined with a special camera, identifies automatically and in real time each container passing through the harbor, during the loading and unloading processes, by filming and decoding of containers` license numbers, and enables their cross-checking with information regarding the container source and destination. It also identifies trucks entering the harbor and leaving it, sending the information in real time to databases of law enforcement authorities of each port and country. The Dutch company specializes in integration of  the systems and automation software with processes enabling control of traffic of containers, equipment and people in the terminal. The merger enables the two companies to offer an integral automation, command and control system for management of all the traffic in harbors.

HTS, together with its Dutch partner, has installed so far about 750 systems in more than 50 sea ports in 25 countries all over the world, including most of the American harbors, and harbors in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa, and also in Israel. As a technology leader, HTS introduced already ten years ago new standards to the world harbors industry in the field of OCR systems installed in strategic entry points in the harbors, such as: entry and exit gates, cranes and railways.

The technology, based on image processing and computerized vision, includes software that can read numbers and graphical from a picture or video recording, and to `translate’ it to text. This feature has a wide variety of applications except harbors, in fields like: protection of strategic sites, border crossings, law enforcement and “safe city”, traffic management, automated management of parking lots, etc.

The technology enables surveillance of highly critical infrastructure sites, identification of potential security threats and traffic of suspected vehicles, trucks and containers.

For instance, at the entrance to various airports around the world, and in hundreds of border passing points in various countries, the system keeps track of all the vehicles and trucks going into and out of the country. The HTS software reaches precision levels of almost 99% in part of the applications. A new and innovative development by HTS, first in the market, enables the detection of additional parameters beyond the plate numbers, such as type and model of the vehicle.

Acccording to Phil Alovik, President and CEO of HTS: The new company, Certus, will enable us to provide a better and fuller solution for our customers all over the world. The aim of the company is to continue to increase the range of solutions and services offered to the industry, not only by responding to the needs of the market, but also by their early anticipation, and creation of new, innovative solutions. “
