Silvus Technologies, a Motorola company, has unveiled a compact tactical communications system designed to enhance battlefield awareness and connectivity in mobile, infrastructure-free environments. Known as StreamCaster NEXUS, the system integrates voice, video, and data into a wearable platform mounted directly on a soldier’s chest.
At the heart of NEXUS is Silvus’ SM5200 Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) radio, a device capable of delivering more than 100 Mbps data throughput with up to two watts of transmit power. This allows teams in the field to maintain real-time communications, even in environments where conventional infrastructure is disrupted or unavailable.
The unit is designed for low size, weight, and power (SWaP), making it suitable for dismounted operations. It supports pairing with Samsung S23 and S23 TE smartphones, enabling field units to leverage commercial-off-the-shelf mobile devices in tactical scenarios, according to the press release.
The entire setup is secured using a Juggernaut Case chest mount, which attaches directly to a tactical vest and includes cable management features to minimize snags or interference during movement. The system is also designed to be modular: the radio can be removed and used independently when needed, offering flexibility for small-unit or covert operations.
Connectivity is further supported by Ethernet and USB interfaces, as well as wireless networking powered by Silvus’ proprietary MANET waveform. This enables users to maintain secure, resilient communication links, even in contested or electronically hostile environments.
StreamCaster NEXUS is compatible with the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK), providing live geospatial data, mission updates, and team tracking. This integration allows operators to see the position of friendly units, receive tasking, and exchange information in real time—essential capabilities for coordination in complex missions.
With increasing demand for mobile, secure, and interoperable communications in tactical settings, NEXUS represents a step toward integrating advanced digital tools into frontline operations without compromising agility or survivability.
