Insta, a Finland-based defense technology company, has revealed its latest innovation, the Insta Steel Eagle ER, a cutting-edge attack drone designed to enhance the Ukrainian forces’ ability to combat Russia. This new drone system incorporates advanced technology and a patented explosive charge, making it a formidable asset for military operations in the ongoing war.
The Insta Steel Eagle ER (extended range) is a next-generation version of the company’s earlier Insta Steel Eagle. What sets it apart is its extended range and improved effectiveness. The drone is designed to carry a directional explosive charge, developed by Insta, and equipped with steel or tungsten balls that disperse more than 3,000 fragments across a vast area. The explosive charge weighs 3.6 kg, and its blast radius covers approximately 2,000 square meters, according to Interesting Engineering.
One of the drone’s most notable features is its operational flexibility. The explosive charge can be adjusted according to the drone’s altitude, with a 90-degree opening angle that maximizes its area of impact. This enables the drone to deliver a precise strike on the target, with the ability to control the blast’s effectiveness depending on the height at which the drone is deployed.
The drone’s design incorporates components from a Ukrainian firm, highlighting the international collaboration in defense technology. Additionally, the Insta Steel Eagle ER is controlled using a hand-held controller, simplifying deployment and operation for ground troops. The ease of use, combined with its advanced capabilities, ensures that it can be effectively integrated into ongoing military operations.
The drone is built to withstand potential electronic warfare interference, ensuring reliable operation even in contested environments, although specifics of this feature remain undisclosed.
This new system represents another step in Finland’s support for Ukraine, which continues to rely on innovative defense technologies to bolster its efforts against Russian forces. Drones have proven to be an invaluable tool in modern warfare, and the Insta Steel Eagle ER promises to further strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
