The Singapore Police Force (SPF) has developed a method for reporting and avoiding scams designed to trick you into giving away your money, personal details or data by offering an attractive deal or false information. To counter these scams the SPF have introduced Scam Alert, a self-help platform that provides recent information regarding the latest scams. People can share personal experiences of scam encounters and lodge police reports online. There are links to major online e-commerce platforms so that the public can approach the platform administrators for assistance regarding transactions on these platforms. Victims of scams will also be able to lodge reports for police investigations via SPF’s Electronic Police Center.

In collaboration with the National Crime Prevention Council, SPF launched the Scamalert.sg website in November 2014 to provide members of the public with the latest information on prevailing scam trends, reported opengoasia.com. It also serves as a platform where members of the public can share their experiences with others. The Scamalert.sg website was revamped in July 2016. The enhancements made to the Scamalert.sg website includes:

  1. Allowing members of the public to conduct keyword search to check if certain usernames, handphone numbers and bank account numbers are featured in Scam Victim stories on the website. This provides members of the public an additional resource to double check before committing to making any payments.
  2. Links to major online major online e-commerce platforms, so that the public can approach the platform administrators for assistance regarding transactions on these platforms.
  3. Direct links to facilitate the lodging of police reports through SPF’s Electronic Police Center.

As part of the counter-terrorism measures for SGsecure, the Singapore police have strengthened the security at buildings and premises as well, including entertainment centers and shopping centers. CCTV coverage has been significantly expanded to allow SPF to better deter, detect and solve crimes.
