The AH-64E Apache Guardian attack helicopter will be remanufactured by Boeing for the governments of the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, and The Netherlands. The remanufacturing of the helicopters are part of a $564.5 million dollar contract between Boeing and the nations.

The AH-64 Apache helicopter is a multirole attack helicopter that utilizes the most advanced avionics, weapons, and digital communications, and is widely used by the United States military and its allies.

As part of the remanufacturing effort, Boeing will upgrade the helicopter to the AH-64E Apache Longbow Block IIIA configuration. The updated configuration includes the AN/APG-78 millimeter wave fire control radar, fire and forget radar guided Hellfire missile capabilities, a frequency interferometer, and cockpit management enhancements, according to Militaryaerospace.com. All the new enhancements put together, along with the aircraft’s advanced navigation and avionics suite, greatly increase the helicopter’s situational awareness, survivability, and lethality.

The updated Apaches also had Lockheed Martin’s Apache Arrowhead Modernized Target Acquisition Designation Sight (M-TADS) and Pilot Night Vision Sensors (PNVS) systems installed onboard.

Aside from the technological and system updates, the helicopters will also be equipped with new rotor blades, more powerful engines, improved landing gear, and the ability to control UAVs from the cockpit.

The Apache helicopter has been in service with the United States Army since 1986. Over the years the helicopter has gradually upgraded its systems and capabilities. Today the chopper is considered a multirole helicopter for a wide range of operations including ground strikes, naval strikes, reconnaissance, and more.

The Apache helicopter is currently operated by several nations across the globe including, Egypt, Israel, Japan, India, South Korea, and more.

Boeing’s work on remanufacturing the helicopters will take place in Arizona and is expected to be finished by March 2025.
