Egozi’s Fury -That’s How It Works

18315594_m-egozi-featureThe successful  testing of the rocket interception system “Sharvit Ksamim” ( David’s Sling)  made headlines and brought smiles to many faces. The achievement  is great, definitely. But whoever thinks that the multi-layered defense system Israel is building will protect its population in its next skirmish with the Hamas, with Hizballah or with Iran, is sorely mistaken.

When the world, represented by those who are carrying out ridiculous negotiations with Iran, has basically abandoned Israel, no additional American supply of missile interception systems will fit the bill. While the American assistance can help purchase several more interception systems, it is only a drop in the proverbial sea if you take into consideration the great quantities of rockets in the Gaza strip and in Lebanon, as well as the Iranian missile force.

What we can do but which I assume we will not, is attack with all our might any area from which missiles are launched at us. But I don’t see that this present government or any future government will adopt such a policy. What I assume will happen is that they will only partially intercept incoming missiles launched at every part of the country.

All I have to say is hey! Prepare your air raid shelters!

It’s true the joke referred to as “understandings with Iran” isn’t worth the paper they are written on (in all their versions), but Israel too, when trying to explain this fact to the world, is making many rude mistakes.

This time it’s Prime Minister Netanyahu. According to a New York Times editorial, he is demanding that any final agreement will include the requirement that Iran acknowledge Israel’s right to exist. The editorial, headed “Israel’s Unworkable Demands on Iran”, writes that the new demands set by Netanyahu are unrealistic, and that if he continues to insist that they be included they will only lead to the annulment of the agreement.

I believe the New York Times, which doesn’t have great sympathy for Israel, is right this time. I am glad Netanyahu hasn’t demanded that the Iran set up an Iranian cultural centre in Jerusalem as an additional condition to this agreement. Even in the craziness that is these nuclear talks with Iran one should use common sense, which our PM failed to do this time.

The fence meant to separate between Israeli and the Palestinian Authority territories is broken open and has been open for many years. All the TV reports we’ve seen showing Palestinians crossing what should have been a hurdle and being collected by vehicles driving them into Israel have not impressed the Defense Authorities much.

This really should stop. How is it possible for such a thing to continue for so long? Someone really needs to take responsibility for this failure, but we’re in Israel. So, there must be about ten different bodies whose job it is to finish building this fence, none of whom moves its rear part to correct the situation. And I can’t see that any of the people in charge will do anything about it before someone gets fired. Because that’s how it works.

For the second time in less than six months: an ammonia leak at the “Hod Heffer” plant in the Heffer Valley Industrial Zone. Emergency teams were alerted and the police set up a road block on highway 4. All employees of the Industrial Zones were evacuated. No casualties. But this was just (another) demonstration of the fully fledged catastrophe that could take place in the North of the country.

It’s been a year and a half since the government decided to announce a tender for a company that would set up a plant for the production of ammonia on the Rotem plane in the south. This plant was meant to replace the dangerous storage of Ammonia in Haifa bay. But to this day nothing much has been done to implement the plan.

What this means is that the lives of residents of Haifa and the north continue to be at risk. The ammonia in Haifa bay is the equivalent of a gigantic “time bomb”. Knesset members, ministers and top officials are acting with complete irresponsibility here, in failing to remove this danger hovering over Haifa and the north.
