Israel is one of the major exporters of advanced defense systems. Take this fact and combine it with the geo-political situation in the Middle East and you get a degree of sensitivity that is second to none. This reality can affect certain issues from time to time with their timeframes sometimes changing from now to a minute later.

In most cases the problem lies with “pure” defense technologies. Situations occur where the line between defense and HLS is so thin that it can create a big problem.

There are also times when situations involving the defense markets can change as quickly as do the situations in HLS.

The details behind most cases are kept under heavy wrap, but we are talking here about dramatic changes. If we are to use Turkey as a model for that equation, things become clearer. Until three years ago, Turkey was almost a captive client of the Israeli defense and Aerospace industries .This NATO member despite its Islamic majority, found itself in a situation where it remained convenient to become a big client of Israel.

The reasons for this stemmed by Turkey’s wish not to become fully dependant on the U.S. on one hand , and their anger directed at Europe which rejected their repeated requests to join the European union.  These situations resulted in increasingly close ties between Ankara and Jerusalem.

Those close ties are now history. A change took place following the takeover by the Israeli navy of the Turkish ship that attempted to sail from Turkey to Gaza.

In a totally different situation defense ties between Israel and China were cut by Washington when they became too “warm”.  This sensitivity mechanism seems to work again and again, each time dramatically affecting Israeli industries.

Facing that reality, Israeli defense companies, seem to find themselves all too often being dealt severe blows that put them in very problematic situations. And that is describing the situation using very mild words.  Ironically those words seem to remain mild and restrained in much the same way as is the general situation.
