$125 Million for Drones Built for First Responders

Police, fire, and emergency response agencies are expected to gain situational awareness within minutes—and often seconds—of receiving an emergency call. In many cases, however, the first drone reaches the scene only after first responders have already arrived, limiting its value as an early intelligence-gathering tool. At the same time, many U.S. emergency agencies continue to rely on Chinese-made drones, an issue that has increasingly become both a regulatory and national security concern.

Against this backdrop, U.S.-based Brinc Drones has raised $125 million to expand the deployment of its drone systems across emergency response organizations. Since its founding in 2019, the company has raised more than $250 million.

The company’s solution is built around the Drone as First Responder (DFR) concept. Rather than storing drones inside patrol vehicles or deploying them manually, the aircraft are housed in dedicated docking stations installed at police stations, fire departments, or other fixed locations. When an emergency call is received, a drone is automatically launched, arrives at the scene ahead of ground responders, and streams live video and operational data back to the command center. This enables dispatchers and commanders to assess the situation, identify potential risks, and direct responding units before they arrive.

The system is designed for a wide range of scenarios, including violent incidents, fires, rescue operations, traffic accidents, and event security. It provides an aerial view of the scene within a short time, allowing responders to make better-informed decisions. According to the company, its technology is already being used by approximately 1,000 police and fire departments across the United States.

Beyond civilian applications, the technology also has clear defense and homeland security implications. Systems capable of autonomously launching drones, remotely controlling them, and transmitting real-time video can also support border security, protection of critical infrastructure, security for national events, and tactical intelligence missions. In addition, U.S. restrictions on Chinese-made drones and critical components are expected to increase demand for domestically produced platforms among security and government agencies.

Alongside the funding round, the company is expanding its manufacturing capacity in Seattle and relocating to a new facility that is more than twice the size of its current plant. The move reflects expectations that the U.S. market is entering a transition from on-demand drone deployment to autonomous response networks, where drones become a permanent element of emergency response and public safety operations.
