Ground-breaking technology for smart city applications successfully breaks bandwidth boundaries. Telicomm, a young Israeli start-up that enables unlimited smart city camera connectivity via cellular networks, breaking through traditional, limited cellular bandwidth boundaries, has secured 1.3M$ in series-A intial closing, led by SIBF (South Israel Bridging Fund) Venture Capital Fund. Shikun & Binui, a leading infrastructure company in Israel, has also invested in this series.

Telicomm’s solutions enable municipalities to materialize their vision to become a truly connected Smart City. Around 12 million cameras are installed every year, worldwide, for safe and smart city applications. Most of these projects are installed with cumbersome and expensive cable solutions. However, in today’s rapidly changing environment, there is a growing demand for immediate and flexible solutions. This can only be achieved using the existing cellular network, but, due to its limited bandwidth, the cellular network cannot support large-scale camera connectivity. The new solution from Telicomm solves this critical problem.

Telicomm’s plug-and-play solution connects a mass number of smart-city cameras over the limited cellular network without the need to connect the cameras to a physical cable. This allows the customer to connect hundreds of smart-city cameras in a single day, with low cost, quick set-up, and flexible real-time mobilization. The company VoC (Video over Cellular) novel technology utilized a powerful machine-learning algorithm to optimize the video streaming over the cellular network in high quality and with uncompromised robustness.

Telicomm recently reached a collaboration agreement with Cellcom. Together, the two won a tender offer by the Ministry of Communications and the Innovation Authority for start-ups and industrial companies, for the promotion and support of R&D pilots of innovative applications in a 5G environment.

“We are excited to have SIBF as our lead investor. Together we plan to accelerate our plans to introduce this unique solution to the international markets,” said Shlomi Arbel, Telicomm’s CEO. “Telicomm developed the only available solution for Smart City Camera projects in areas with no infrastructure. There is no practical limitation to the number of cameras, the installation is quick and simple, and you can mobilize the solution quite easily.”

“After examining Telicomm, we believe that the unique technology developed by the company is a real game-changer, that will enable connecting any video surveillance cameras directly to the vastly deployed cellular networks around the globe. The company has a great business potential with a great team led by entrepreneurial management, we can help it grow according to our operating model,” said Boaz Or-Shraga, SIBF’s General Partner.
