Some very advanced anti terror units show great interest in the Israel Aerospace industries (IAI) “Ghost” – vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned air system (UAS). The double rotor VTOL system is aimed especially for covert missions of Special Forces. The Ghost weighs 4 kg, has an endurance of 30 minutes and can carry a 500 grams payload.

According to IAI , the Ghost is aimed at entering a structure and supply data about its inside. “The flight planning system enables to pre plan the flight inside a building so that the UAS will avoid the walls .The two rotors give it super stabilization and maneuverability” a company source said.

The Ghost was designed for maximal redundancy. When one of the electric motors fails the other can rotate the second rotor to ensure safe landing. “We are now in very advanced stages in the flight tests and the system is almost at an operational status”.

The IAI’s Ghost UAS is currently equipped with the NextVision very light electro-optic payloads but IAI is developing its own designs that will fit different requirements.
