IMI is participating at the MSPO defense and security expo in Poland, showcasing a wide range of combat systems developed by the company for the Israel Defense Forces and foreign customers. Among the products on display are a number of systems that recently entered operational use and proven in combat operations in the past year. IMI specializes in the development and manufacturing of advanced combat systems, among them, multi-purpose precision targeted ordnance for aircraft and land systems, artillery rocket systems as well as mobility and weapon systems for the infantry. As one of Israel’s largest defense manufacturers IMI directs 70 percent of its activity to export markets.

Among the systems on display are advanced ordnance for aerial platforms and tanks, and extended range multi-purpose rocket systems.

MPR500-advanced aerial ordnance developed by IMI to enhance the effectiveness, lethality and reduce collateral damage risk of aerial attacks in urban areas. MPR500 entered operational service recently.

The MPR-500 enables modern air forces to strike targets in dense urban environments and in close proximity to friendly forces, while reducing collateral damage and risk to non-combatants near the target. Matched with JDAM GPS or laser guidance kits, the new weapon constitutes a breakthrough in air-strike capabilities.

The new bombs uniquely designed to hit targets hidden inside buildings, by penetrating through multiple floor levels and detonate its fragmenting high-explosive warhead inside structures, thus enabling planners to target a specific floor, while leaving the rest of a building relatively safe. Moreover, the weapon maintains its structural integrity throughout its path; eliminating breakup or jittering that has often been encountered with standard GP bombs – an unexpected behavior that increases the risk of duds or collateral damage. Operating against such hard targets, MPR-500 offers over 90 percent reliability.

EXTRA Missiles –High Precision Attack at Extended Range missile, IMI’s 306mm EXTRA missile is designed to hit targets with high precision (CEP of 10 meter), at ranges up to 150 km. The missile can use a number of warhead types against various types of targets.  EXTRA carries a warhead weighing 120 kg.

LYNX – Multi-Mission Mobile Rocket and missile launcher

IMI developed the LYNX as a versatile, multi-mission mobile rocket and missile launcher system enabling artillery regiments to deploy fast, accurate multi-mission fire effects, launching rocket and missiles carrying a wide range of warheads. LYNX provides a force multiplier, by its ability to provide maneuver forces the ability to strike targets that could previously be hit only by air support.

As a multi-mission rocket system LYNA can launch various weapons, from the 122mm GRAD class rockets effective at 40 km range, to the Predator Hawk 370mm missile, enabling precision attack at an effective range of 250 km.

LYNX has integral GPS based navigation, position location and fire control systems fire enabling the unit full autonomy in battle. Advanced reloading systems enable the crew to fully reload in less than 10 minutes.

LYNX is assembled on high mobility wheeled systems designed for off-road operation, enabling rapid positioning and repositioning after fire.

M339 HE-MP-T–In recent months IMI expanded its combat proven range of tank ammunition with the fielding and combat deployment of the M339 High Explosive, Multi-Purpose Tracer (HE-MP-T) cartridge. The new projectile addresses operational gaps realized during combat operations in 2006 and 2012 when conventional tank rounds proved inadequate in urban warfare.

Unlike the traditional High-Explosive Anti-Tank (HEAT) rounds that explode on impact, the M-339 cartridge carries a larger high explosive warhead and delay fuse, enabling the round to explode inside the target, maximize lethality inside the target while limiting collateral damage outside. Fitted with smart, tri-modal fuse, M-339 can follow-through a wall and detonate inside the target, thus maximizing lethality within the target area and minimizing collateral damage outside. It can also use impact detonation to breach a wall or preset to delay detonation, thus creating an airburst effect hitting the enemy behind defilade.
