The recent exchange of blows between the US and Israel concerning Prime Minister Netanyahu’s planned speech before Congress has long ago passed what can be considered ’a tiff’ between friends, albeit friends who might be upset at each other as some point. This is a real war, complete with strong emotions and vengeance seeking. The major question is not what going on between President Obama and PM Netanyahu. The problem is how all this ’mess’ is going to affect US top officials, especially at the Pentagon, most of whom are far from being avid Israel supporters.

Obama is setting the tone, and there are concerns that many senior administrators, who dislike Israel, will toe the line. This is bad news, as these figures usually play an important role in US military aid to Israel.

The only way PM Netanyahu could rectify the damage that has already being done, is to present before Congress – that is before those who would not happen to be out of town that day – new, surprising intelligence information. Nevertheless, there is a snag. Unveiling such intelligence, which would constitute a major surprise, might expose intelligence sources. Famously, ’a wise person does not an enter places a clever person tries to escape” – even after realizing it’s a dead end.

By now, it has become abundantly clear: after their success in the so called “nuclear talks”, the Iranians believe the world is stupid. They indeed are, some of the world truly is. Is was enough to read some of the reports in the world press concerning the major Iranian naval exercise. Here’s a reminder: hundreds of assault boats ’stormed’ cardboard and wooden models of a US aircraft carrier and lo and behold, they actually destroyed it. This display is all the more absurd when you see, in one of the videos the Iranians released, a small civilian plane, of the kind normally used for aerial tours over parks, is launching a missile against the cardboard target.

Spurred by its success in pursuing nuclear weapons, Iran continues to deceive the entire world. Every few months, an Iranian general with a well groomed beard presents a ’new’ arms systems that any layman can see is little more than a fancy toy.

Nevertheless, Iran is clever, and the world is largely not. They are pulling all the stops in their attempt to hide their actual goal: the ayatollahs want have nuclear weapons under their command. Everything else is all show.

Back to Israel. There is a sector in the population who barely live up to their basic civic duties, and to boot, scorn Israel’s national symbols. The same week the IDF decorated soldiers and officers for the distinction of their service during “Protective Edge”, the spiritual leader of one of Israel’s main political parties, a prospective ultraorthodox coalition partner, called Israel’s national anthem, Hatikvah, “a dumbd song”. In the same party convention, he also said that his predecessor also refused to sing Israel’s national anthem.

I would not be commenting on this had it not been for one important fact. These people have a major impact on every Israeli’s lives. It’s a simple equation: people who hardly make any contribution to Israel, make a mockery of its emblems and sacred symbols. Nevertheless, they demand – and are also granted – influence over matters of life and death, including security and defense issues, by virtue of their ability to present any prime minister with a parliamentary majority. Does this make sense to you?

In my opinion, it’s asinine, but it is part of many absurd things in Israeli. And all this is taking place as Iran is charging forward towards having its own nuclear bomb, and as ISIS continues with its beheadings and with its penetration deeper into Europe. With all this going on, there is an entire section of the population, whose leaders hold nothing sacred – unless it has to do with the Torah.
