Polish robotics firm MAB Robotics has showcased its flagship quadruped robot, the Honey Badger, demonstrating its impressive amphibious capabilities in recent footage. The robot, which can seamlessly transition between land and underwater environments, is designed for a variety of applications, including search and rescue operations.
The Honey Badger, resembling competitors like Boston Dynamics’ Spot, is built for mobility and adaptability in challenging terrains. It operates effectively in diverse environments, ranging from urban settings to remote rural areas. The recently released footage highlights the robot’s agility as it trots around a swimming pool, showcasing its ability to maneuver both on solid ground and submerged.
Jakub Bartoszek, co-founder and CEO of MAB Robotics, expressed enthusiasm for the robot’s potential. “Developing locomotion systems capable of navigating the challenges of underwater terrain is a fascinating journey. I’m excited about the impact this work could have on inspection and maintenance services in flooded areas,” he shared on LinkedIn.
The Honey Badger is a compact robot, measuring 60 cm long and weighing 12 kg. It boasts a height that can range from 25 cm to 50 cm and a width of 40 cm. With a payload capacity of 2 kg, it can be equipped with various tools, including cameras, gas sensors, and LiDAR, enhancing its utility for inspection and monitoring tasks.
The robot is water and dust-resistant, capable of operating in temperatures ranging from 0°C to 40°C. It can traverse obstacles and reach inaccessible areas, making it an ideal platform for industrial inspections and emergency responses. Operating remotely via 5G or an optical fiber umbilical cable, the Honey Badger also has an integrated, replaceable lithium-ion battery that provides up to two hours of power.
MAB Robotics envisions the Honey Badger being used in a range of sectors, from research and development to industrial inspections. With customization options available to meet specific client needs, the Honey Badger is positioned as a versatile solution for numerous operational challenges.
As MAB Robotics continues to refine this innovative technology, the Honey Badger stands out as a promising tool for enhancing safety and efficiency in various critical operations.
