The British Army announced last year that it had agreed to cooperate with Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) on a $ 1.1 billion deal for a fully upgraded version of the Challenger 3. This is part of a larger plan to deliver 148 battle tanks of the new model in the next few years.

An advanced turret with steel cuts, made locally in the UK, represents the kingdom’s military technological advancement and its commitment to local production.

Additionally, new developments include high-velocity ammunition with faster speeds and longer range, digitally-programmed ammunition in a 120-millimeter smoothbore gun, a turret that can be fitted on tanks of allied countries, an engine cooling system and suspension to increase accuracy during transit, and an automatic system for identifying and following targets. This includes long-term thermal threats, as well as thermal cameras that provide high-resolution visual data in both day and night conditions. It also integrated thermal long-range cameras, which improve the system’s night and day capabilities.

With the steel cutting process now complete, the Challenger 3 continues on its path as the kingdom’s flagship tank, further indicating that warfighting remains the cornerstone of deterrence for the British Army.
