Israel’s Ministry of Defense will purchase relays and components for the Merkava battle tanks and Namer APCs for NIS 190 million from Ashot Ashkelon, an Elbit Systems’ company.

The production facility specializes in the manufacture of drive systems for tanks and AFVs. The MInistry of Defense will purchase gear, suspension systems, and drive systems for the Merkav IV tanks and Namer APCs.

This is the second major order series of the IMoD’s Directorate of Production and Procurement

from the factory within several months. During 2020, procurement from this factory has reached more than NIS 300 million, according to IMoD announcement.

Avi Dadon, head of IMOD’s Directorate of Production and Procurement said: “The continuity of orders from Ashot Ashkelon was designed to ensure the supply of components for the Merkava and Namer project. The new order is part of IMoD’s policy preferring Israeli manufacture, enhancing peripheral regions, and providing a financial security net to this factory,“ which employs some 450 workers and some 300 suppliers, mainly from Ashkelon and its vicinity.
