New, Fuel-Efficient UAS Propulsion System
This post is also available in: עברית (Hebrew)
UAS propulsion systems, as we mentioned in a previous article, are both essential to the industry and very difficult to develop. Main industry trends include adaptability and efficiency – enabling clients to cope with the recent plague of defense budget cuts – in addition to relativey small size and lower weight.
A new propulsion system developed specifically for UAS might answer some of these requirements. This next-gen engine will have the ability to run on multiple fuels (gasoline, JP5, JP8), expanding the potential client base considerably.

The system is currently developed by Orbital for Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing. Orbital has recently completed the system’s design phase, and is now moving on to produce a working prototype. The design process so far is valued at up to 4.5 million dollars.
