Egozi’s Fury – Another disgrace coming up

Putting up the obstacle against tunnel dug along the border with Gaza will begin in three months. Why? Because in Israel there is no rush.

If the residents hadn’t reported digging noises from under their homes, this wouldn’t have happened even in three years.

But why three months? Here, too, there is bureaucracy which destroys every good thing.

When Arik Sharon was prime minister, such an operation would have started a minute after the decision has been made. He would have hit his fist on the table in the debate room and the whole thing would have started to move forward.

But Arik Sharon is no more, and no one is quite like him. So three months or six months. The disgrace is already facing us.

The US is having a debate about cutting the military aid to Israel. The threat is that it will be cut significantly.

North Korea is experimenting with Hydrogen bombs and launching a satellite to space with a long range missile. US is mumbling something in response and the UN is sounding some pretty pathetic voices.

The world loves the strong, fearless ones. North Korea is blowing Washington off and that’s why it isn’t afraid. Russia does what it sees fit in Syria, according to its interests. US says nothing. Russia is strong with a leader who fears no one.

Today Israel is weak, with no proper leadership so it can be “abused”. That’s how it is when a strong state is weakened by a leadership which is a bad joke.

Things at IAI is bad. A demand by the Government Companies Authority to fire the chairman, a rift between him and CEO, a decrease in sales and profits, a tough atmosphere in the largest defense company in Israel.

And what do shareholders do? Nothing. As if the company belongs to a country in Africa. Neither the Prime Minister nor the ministers of defense and finance are not willing to put their hands in this boiling pot.

All they want is for their chair in their chamber to stay right where it is. What do they care about a large defense company, vital for protecting the Israel.

It is a huge disgrace but not surprising. The Prime Minister and ministers just want to hold on to their chairs. The rest only interests their part which touches the chair.

The greed for headlines by the government’s ministers causes even those considered the “smart ones” of the bunch in behave in a way that, let’s be gentle, causes doubt regarding their wisdom.

Minister Steinitz, for example, boasts a triple title for the minister of national infrastructures, energy, and water said in an interview that Israel is being aided by Egypt on the matter of the tunnels. Such a saying is stupid and irresponsible, but headlines come first.

Minister Bennett declared that Israel should attack the tunnels in Gaza, meaning to open a new war with Hamas.

Truly a great wisdom for anyone presuming to understand security. But as I’ve said, headlines come first.

So there is a greed for headlines and empty talks, but that is the face of the government who is meant to manage Israel’s affairs at a time of a terror wave and difficult international challenges.

Some people you wouldn’t dare buy a used car from. From Israeli ministers, or more accurate to say most of them, I wouldn’t expect anything. The chairs and the respect – that is enough for them.
