Unmanned Aerial Vehicles can be used in various ways, from military assignments to completely civilian uses in different fields. The civilian market isn’t a stranger to these remote controlled flying platforms, and many citizens today have personal UAVs. The Netherlands government has decided to make use of these vehicles in order to monitor the traffic during a large festival In the Zeeland county. The radius of the aerial supervision by three UAVs – all Altura Zenith ATX8 made by Aerialtronics – is 30 sq. kilometers.

An official of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment, which operated the UAVs for monitoring traffic during the festival, stated: “The additional value of the drones is huge. With the live images that the drone sent us, we could limit the creation of traffic, solve incidents faster and offer real-time traffic information.”ausr_e3

The use of UAVs is in no way unique to this governmental office, and the Netherlands police is using them routinely for some time now to improve its efficiency. Individuals in the police force speak highly of the vehicle and say that this is a reliable and versatile tool and that it helps them locate missing persons, monitor traffic and so on. The Netherlands police isn’t the only one enjoying the capabilities of the Altura Zenith ATX8, as search and rescue services in the Netherlands and Norway are also looking into the possibility of operating the UAV for their purpose.
