Parrot company has revealed in an exhibition that was held two weeks ago in New-York a new remote-controlled unmanned platform. The uniqeness of it is in that it is a vehicle that floats on water combining hovering abilities. The drone begins its movement in the water and, after gaining enough speed, it rises in height and begins to fly so that the friction with the water disappears, which enhances its speed significantly to about 10 km/h.
Although it doesn’t seem that hydrofoil drone can be of great us to security forces for now, using the right adjustments it can easily be of great security use. From HomeLand Security authorities’ point of view around the world, a vehicle that is this small and quiet as the Parrot drone, is in fact one which security services can make great use of: It can be installed with surveillance technology and spy on the enemy without its knowing, it can be integrated as a security measure in river-related festivals to seek out potential threats in the crowd, where it’s also possible to mention the matter of biometric recognition and especially facial features recognition. By installing a surveillance camera on the vehicle, it can scan through crowds and detect potential suspects by their unique features after comparing them with a picture database in the law enforcement services’ computers.
