The AUS&R 2013 Air Show Opened Last Night With an Evening Gala

The first international air show of unmanned vehicles and robotics opened last night, with a gala evening held at the Rishon Lezion municipal hall.

Dov Tsur, mayor of the hosting city, said that’s he’s happy to host an international event of this magnitude. “Rishon Lezion is becoming a high-tech city and we’re happy to host such an important international event.”

The keynote address was given by Nisim Hadas, IAI VP and the CEO of Elta, IAI’s subsidiary in Ashdod. Hadas described the challenges of intelligence gathering in the age of asymmetrical warfare, and the sensors his company develops and manufactures to facilitate this new intel gathering. He described the challenge of integrating the various sensors into unmanned aerial vehicles, which have become an inseparable part of warfare.

Many guests, from Israel and abroad, took part in the gala evening: Heads of defense companies, top figures in the defense establishment, military attaches and media personnel. Meanwhile, at the YES Planet compound in west Rishon Lezion, the ground display was being set up.

Media crews from all over the world arrived in Israel throughout the day to cover the unprecedented event. During the day we’ll provide live cover of the convention and the unmanned vehicle displays.
