Unmanned systems 2014 – Combat engineering missions include route clearance and landmine and explosive device (ED) neutralization in diverse operational arenas.
These missions are currently executed using manned and remote controlled mechanical engineering equipment. The challenges of dealing with these missions using existing methods include:
- High risk to the equipment operators and security forces providing protection to the equipment operators
- Specialized skills are required to operate the mechanical engineering equipment
- The operators of this mechanical engineering equipment are exposed to large amounts of data and information which require multi-tasking and often result in ambiguity and dilemmas
- Extremely high levels of accuracy are required which can result in the slow implementation of the required tasks
iHLS – Israel Homeland Security
To overcome these challenges, the SAHAR has the capability of converting remotely-controlled mechanical engineering equipment to autonomous platforms.
The SAHAR is a result of QinetiQ, Watairpoll and IAI cooperation.
