Brazil does not currently produce satellites, but depends on other countries to meet national demand. As part of the country’s drive to develop its own space capabilities the MMM-1 development team received an initial investment of million reais ($19.4 million) with part of the funding coming from the Brazilian Innovation Agency (Financiadora de Estudios e Projectos or FINEP).
