Spike LR (Gil) guided missiles manufactured by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems passed a series of tests by the Romanian armed forces for technical and operational evaluation. The missiles were purchased by the Romanian army already in 2015.

10 missiles were fired in various scenarios during the testing, in day and night settings, against targets such as tanks and APCs in various ranges. All the missiles succeeded in hitting their targets, according to Rafael’s announcement.

The Spike missile family which is in vast operational use in the IDF and other armed forces in the world are accurate guided missiles launched from various platforms – helicopters, ground, air and sea, with a maximum range of 30 km. So far, Rafael had sold more than 27000 Spike missiles to 27 countries.

The Romanian Army has been using the Spike for a long period of time, mounted on military ground vehicles and combat jets.

Testing in Romania also included the new unified system launcher, which enables the detection of the target from a long range and an integration in the tactical communication network.
