After a concluding series of experiments for the advanced interception system David’s Sling, which was completed successfully last December, the Administration for the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure (Maf’at), together with the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA), have begun delivery of central components of the system to the Israeli Air Force.

The delivery process is gradual, according to the development plan of the David’s Sling systems, and is expected to last several weeks. In the first stage, the managers of the project from the Israel Missile Defense Organization, together with the security industries, headed by chief contractor Rafael, began delivering the interception, control & command, and radar systems. Soon an organized procedure to make sure all the parts of the system were received will take place, up to the final announcement of the system as operational by the Israeli Air Force.

David’s Sling is considered the most modern and revolutionary anti-missile system in the world. This systems, which will become a part of a multi-layered defense developed by the Israel Missile Defense Organization in collaboration with the air force, will allow to better cope with a wide range of present and future threats on the state of Israel. David’s Sling will provide another layer of defense against short and medium range missiles and rockets, as well as add chances for interception for the Arrow weapon system, thus allowing a thicker defense systems for the state of Israel against missiles and rockets.

The chief contractor for the development of the David’s Sling weapon system is Rafael, working in collaboration with the American Raytheon. The MMR radar was developed by Elta – a subsidiary of the Israel Aerospace Industry. The control and command system was developed by Elisra, of the Elbit Systems group.
