Lockheed Martin has introduced a new, scalable counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) aimed at addressing the growing threat of small drones, whether operating individually or in coordinated swarms. The innovative system, developed in collaboration with undisclosed partners, has successfully demonstrated its ability to detect, track, and neutralize UAV threats, ensuring enhanced security in complex environments.

The C-UAS solution utilizes a sophisticated network of sensors designed to detect low-flying, small drones, feeding real-time data into a central command-and-control system. This system analyzes the data, classifies potential threats, and selects the most effective countermeasures to neutralize them. Additionally, it can manage multiple threats simultaneously, allowing for dynamic, real-time responses in high-stakes scenarios.

Tyler Griffin, Lockheed Martin’s C-UAS Director, emphasized the importance of integrating a wide range of sensors through a user-friendly command and control system, which simplifies the identification of threats and enhances decision-making. “We have the complementary technology offerings to convert collected data into actionable information,” Griffin noted, highlighting the system’s ability to provide timely and effective responses.

Key features of the system include its open-architecture design, which facilitates integration with other defense technologies. Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), the C-UAS improves detection and tracking efficiency, automating threat assessment and response processes to minimize operator workload. The use of AI also streamlines the decision-making process, ensuring quicker and more accurate reactions to emerging threats.

The system’s modular design is another key benefit, allowing for rapid adaptation to evolving threats. Operators can easily incorporate new sensors and interceptors into the system, enhancing its flexibility and scalability. Additionally, the system is designed for rapid deployment and can be integrated seamlessly with existing defense networks, ensuring optimal coordination across various platforms.

Lockheed Martin’s new C-UAS technology represents an advancement in counter-UAV capabilities, providing a versatile and adaptive solution for military and security forces facing the growing challenge of unmanned aerial threats.
