Confined spaces such as industrial installations, storage tanks, etc. are challenging for routine inspection and maintenance, with possible risks to worker teams.

An unmanned solution is offered now by Global Drone Inspection (GDI) in partnership with Voliro. The two will develop a drone that would fill the gap in inspection missions in confined spaces.

The partnership enables GDI to use the Voliro T flying robot to inspect storage tanks and other confined spaces safer and faster and collect data.

Through the collaboration that aims to accelerate drone use in industrial environments, GDI will offer a complete solution for asset owners. An inspection program will be launched in the Netherlands and surrounding regions within the coming weeks, according to suasnews.com.

Valuable first-hand insight into the complexities of deploying drone technology in challenging environments is expected to be achieved.

The technology could also be applied to carry out NDT-measurements (nondestructive testing – the evaluation of properties of a material, component, etc. without causing damage to the original part). The introduction of NDT-equipment on drones is the next step taken in the world of asset management and has been the missing link for a long time, according to GDI.
