Mounted combating teams often suffer from a heavy burden of information and tasks. An innovative device can help increase intelligence, awareness, and safety while reducing the cognitive burden for military vehicle crew members. The RuggedCONNECT smart video switcher developed by Pleora Technologies as a standalone device that acquires, processes, and displays real-time video sensor data for vehicle-based local situational awareness (LSA) and driver vision enhancer (DVE) applications.
It is a scalable platform helping implement advanced and future capabilities like machine learning, artificial intelligence, and new sensors to increase mission effectiveness with minimum integration effort.
The system acquires and processes data from several cameras and sensors into a standardized feed that transmits over a low-latency, multicast Gigabit Ethernet network to processors, according to militaryaerospace.com.
The RuggedCONNECT uses the company’s distributed video architecture to enable systems designers to network several units together to create large-scale video switching systems with different video input/output combinations.
Combining the high-performance networking capabilities of RuggedCONNECT with an NVIDIA graphics processing unit, designers can add artificial intelligence (AI)-based image processing and graphics overlay decision-support capabilities to reduce the cognitive burden and increase mission effectiveness.
The configurable product architecture enables fast development to address various sensor and display interfaces, such as HD-SDI, VGA, or custom sensor/display requirements.
The technology has recently won the 2020 Military & Aerospace Electronics and Intelligent Aerospace Innovators Awards.
