“The enemy realized that he had no chance to deal with the Israeli Air Force, so he developed solutions simpler and cheaper – rockets and missiles, drones, ballistic missiles and model airplanes. These are the enemy’s development goals” said in the morning Gen. (Res.) Amos Yadlin, in the opening of the international conference on air threats in the modern era held in Tel Aviv.
Amos Yadlin, former head of IDF intelligence, said that the threat of cheap and simple tools such a – asymmetric threat, but we cannot ignore the fact that the enemy is also developing symmetric threats. The Enemy realized that short-range rockets do not cause major damage, and has therefore developed long-range rockets, all the way to Gush Dan, with large explosive charges and a higher level of accuracy. One should also keep in mind that Saudi Arabia and Egypt have more F-15s and -16 than the State of Israel.
Dr. Gabi Sibony, head of Military and Strategic Program at INSS, said that the enemy shield its destructive power in civilian centers, warheads and missile accuracy improved, and the State of Israel has to face these threats using a combination of attack and defense. The most effective action is to destroy the missiles before they get out of the launchers at Israel – an attacks treatment.
Dr. Sibony said that ” future holds great threats – an ability to fire thousands of rockets and missiles a day, if someone decides to do this mistake”.
About passive protection, the state should focus the defense primarily on communication centers, military, emergency stores, critical facilities, and especially essential geographic intersections which when jammed or hit, the military will find great difficulty in mobilizing the reserve forces.
