Zickel Engineering is a technological entrepreneurship center that specializes in combining sensory and control technologies with communication technologies for multidisciplinary projects. The company’s team includes a high-level engineering team composed of aeronautics, mechanics, electronics, and software engineers. Among the company’s clients are defense and civilian industries, Start-Up companies and academia.

The company provides a variety of products such as:DSCF5016aa

  • Remote Aimed and Positioned Tool for Observation and Render-Safe (RAPTOR)
  • Unmanned Programed Ground Vehicle – Convert any commercial vehicle to enhance your 7/24 patrol capability. Demonstrated on trucks up to 15 Tons. (UPGV)
  • Unmanned Programmed Surface Vehicle – Remote Operated Jet-Ski (UPSV)
  • Unmanned targets based on the conversion kits, in sea or ground to simulate operational scenarios with multiple targets. (UPTV)
  • Personal locator for locating rescue teams in buildings with no GPS reception. (zLOCI)
  • Kit for remote synchronized operation of multiple GoPro cameras.
  • IoT – Distributed Sensor Network for monitoring various sensors and uploading the data to the internet cloud.

zRover_6x6An example of a new venture is the Drone Free Dome* (DFD) that deals with anticipated operational needs of detection and interception of low signature – low altitude UAVs (Unmanned Arial Vehicle), and protects selected assets and/or crowded events.

Analyzing expected threats in the next decade shows danger from extensive use of commercial vehicles by lawbreakers, criminals and terrorists, using relatively inexpensive aerial vehicles whose regular use is civilian, such as for imaging or transporting parcels. In fact, drones could cause harm for critical facilities, VIP’s residences, mass events etc.

The proposed DFD system allows UAV detection by integrating several means such as: Laser scan detection, Radar detection, Optical detection, Thermal detection, Acoustic detection, Radio detection and Cyber detection into a single detection station. The system also offers different interception options such as: Immediate shoot-down, Direction to a remote location and controlled interception, Diverting the UAV back home by GPS jamming, Controlled capture and Forced landing, Takeover the control station and more. The interception process may include jamming GPS signals in a focused location around the drone.

The proposed DFD system is hierarchic and modular, built from detection stations designed to cooperate, through local control and command stations, to a central station capable of operating a whole arena. Such a system can be quickly deployed and/or permanently stationed.

Zickel engineering is currently holding negotiations with additional Israeli companies to combine existing detection means for a unified detection station. The company will present its technologies at the AUS&R 2015.
