igrantsThe highest prosecutor of the European Union said that she has been told that smugglers’ ships that bring in immigrants across the mediterranean and into Europe, are also carrying terrorists from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) organization.

Michele Coninsx, head of the EU’s judicial co-operation agency Eurojust, told reports that she received the information as part of the agency’s efforts to assist Union countries in a joint reaction towards illegal immigration, cyber crimes and acts of terror.

She states that Eurojust’s efforts are still ongoing but she cannot divulge what the EU countries have told the agency. She also told the press that it’s not clear what danger ISIS fighters that inflitrated the continent pose to European law enforcement agencies, but added that organizations like ISIS use profits from smuggling people to fund terror.

As such, one of the countries in the continent has already taken action to cope with the threat: The hungarian Parliament has passed a law tightening Hungary’s immigration laws, which provides a legal frame for the building of a fence along the country’s southern border with Serbia in order to reduce the flow of illegal immigrants entering its borders.
