DHS uses EMDs for the screening of humans, at airports, buildings and non-fixed site events,” explains a sources sought document issued by the Federal Protective Service on November 26.

According to Government Security News the agency asks that interested prospective vendors answer a detailed list of 19 questions (in no more than 30 pages) by December 17. The questions ask for data about the types of equipment, the variety of metallic and non-metallic objects that the EMD can capture, the throughout capacities, the physical dimensions, the “network, system and software capabilities,” and much more.

The agency specifically asks for information about “how the equipment interacts or affects persons with medically implanted devices.”
