First Responders Jobs Have Just Become Much Easier

When people are endangered and dial 911 their lives mainly depend on how fast and efficiently responders act upon the call. Dialing 911 can entail anything from being held up at gunpoint to having a heart attack. About 240 million Americans dial 911 each year because of emergencies. From those calls, many people’s lives are lost or even ruined because first responders were not quick enough to arrive at the scene. Public service answering points (PSAP) do receive the caller’s location when 911 is dialed, although it is not immediate and accurate enough as it should be. If this process was expedited, then countless lives could be saved.

Fortunately, researchers have recently established a new system built to fix this ongoing issue. RapidSOS Clearinghouse has integrated with Android Emergency Location Service (ELS) to enhance the process of locating 911 dialers, according to rapidsos.com. Google and RapidSOS Clearinghouse collaborated on this project creating ELS. While ELS may already have been introduced to 15 other countries, it is finally being installed in the United States. There has already been many times where someone’s life has been saved from this new system taking place. When the system was being examined in 2018, it proved to be reliable and trustworthy in the three locations it was tested.

ELS was built to ensure all of public safety is free of any cost. Many people who live in poverty would be unable to afford this system, which is why making it free will increase everyone’s opportunity to live and be safe.

Any PSAP that has the RapidSOS installed will only have their abilities enhanced when locating someone in need of help. The person who is endangered and calling will also not have to do anything since the system is already automatically enabled. ELS integrates GPS, WIFI, cell tower data, and other sources in order to create a more accurate method of locating people either indoors or outdoors.

With ELS in place, dispatchers will arrive to the caller in no time because of the PSAPs power to quickly and precisely locate the caller. Over 3,000 agencies are already obtaining ELS, protecting the lives of over 240 million Americans. The need of this new and advanced system is urgent.
