China’s military continues to integrate cutting-edge unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into its warfare strategies, aligning with its broader goal of mastering intelligent and cost-effective combat solutions. The country is rapidly advancing its UAV capabilities, focusing on attack and reconnaissance missions.
As part of this, the PLA has recently introduced a new micro drone, weighing less than one kilogram and resembling a thermal flask. Developed for infantry use, this dual-rotor UAV is capable of carrying up to three grenades and can quietly deliver them to targets while transmitting real-time intelligence, according to South China Morning Post. The drone’s modular design, complete with foldable rotors and adjustable payload bays, allows for swift adaptation on the battlefield. Additionally, its neural processing unit enables a single operator to manage multiple drones simultaneously, providing significant tactical advantages. The drone can be launched via a 35mm grenade launcher.
Furthermore, China is also deploying fiber-optic-guided kamikaze drones, a technology initially showcased in Ukraine. These drones are resistant to jamming, making them ideal for warfare. China’s dominance in global fiber-optic production could give the country an edge in this realm. Equipped with long fiber-optic cables, the drones can be controlled with precision over quite long distances, with Chinese companies, like Skywalker Technology, offering 50 km options, according to South China Morning Post.
