Official disclosure of a US stealth unmanned aircraft vehicle may happen soon, observers believe. The U.S. Air Force’s secret ‘RQ-180’ high-altitude, long-endurance (HALE) flying-wing stealth drone has been apparently gaining momentum. The RQ-180 designation is reportedly an expansion of the designation of Lockheed Martin’s RQ-170 Sentinel.

The stealth aircraft was already seen twice over US flight test airspace in California and Nevada and another seemingly over the Phillippines. Its existence was recently hinted at in a video on the US Air Force’s Profession of Arms Center of Excellence (PACE) youtube page.

The video reports on how the Air Force’s information, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) mission has come over the decades. According to thedrive.com, towards the end, as the video says “The days of balloons and biplanes have been replaced by white bats”, a Global Hawk flying is seen and a planform image of a stealthy flying-wing HALE drone reminding Aviation Week’s art covering the clandestine RQ-180 program.
