At the end of several years of development and manufacturing efforts, IAI in collaboration with the Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) at the Israeli Ministry of Defense (MoD) and Israel Air Force started deploying the High Availability Aerostat System (HAAS, Tal Shama’im) – an aerial platform which is one of the largest of its kind in the world. The system will be used to detect and warn of advanced threats.

The balloon will be placed at a designated site in northern Israel and will constitute a significant element in strengthening the protection of the country’s borders, according to the IAI announcement.

According to IMDO Director Moshe Patel, “the aerostat system will cruise at high altitudes, and will provide exceptional multi-detection capabilities of advanced threats.”
