A series of shoulder-fired recoilless grenade launchers will be developed for the US market by General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS) and Germany-based Dynamit Nobel Defence (DND).

The Recoilless Grenade Weapon series will be based on the RGW 60 and RGW 90 launchers made by DND, General Dynamics announced.

DND developed the 60mm RGW 60 launcher for special operations, airborne and other light forces which require a compact, lightweight assault weapon. It can be fired from within an enclosure. A high muzzle velocity provides a flat trajectory, low dispersion and ‘good’ hit probability.

The RGW 90, meanwhile, has a programmable warhead effective against targets up to 1,200m away, according to shphardmedia.com.

GD-OTS said that the teaming agreement blends the ‘tactical air munitions expertise’ of the US company ‘with DND’s 60 years of experience in the development and production of shoulder-launched weapons for anti-armour and multipurpose missions’.
