Russia continues to stride towards north pole

070205-A-9307C-001After Russia has declared before that is has bgun using two unmanned aerial vehicles for reconnaissance and intelligence in the north pole’s aerial territory, it seems it has decided to take a step forward in confronting the other countries for the right to use the natural resources there, and now there’s also a growing presence of military assault weapons in the frozen places, such as advanced fighter jets, ground-to-air missile defense systems and state of the art radar systems. The different means are stationed in the islands belonging to Russia around the pole.

An official in the Russian army, Kirill Makarov, said that stationing these means for assault was done as part of a decision to protect the borders of the russian country as well as its interests in the Arctic Circle. Strengthening military presence in the north pole is part of new military strategy which decided on lately in the Kremlin and was applied simultaneously with two other areas: The Crimmean Penninsula  and the russian territory of Kaliningrad along the Baltic sea. Ever since Russia has decided to enhance military force in the north pole, it was begun a construction momentum in which 16 deepwater ports, 13 airfields, 10 radar stations and 10 search and rescue stations around the arctic shore of the country.

Mark Galeotti, a professor from New-York University who specializes in Russian studies, said that he estimates that by 20025 the northern circle will be filled with vast military presence and advanced and destructive bombs. Furthermore, as part of the race to the north, Russia has decided to build a Joint Strategic Command North to manage its military presence in the best way.
