Russia has unveiled a futuristic exoskeleton suit designed for Russian warfighters at an event at Moscow’s National University of Science and Technology (MISIS). The suits were designed by the Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Building. “

The suit appears to be Russia’s answer to the U.S. military’s Tactical Light Operator Suit (TALOS), according to wahingtontimes.com. Pentagon officials working on TALOS have often referred to their project for special operations forces as the “Iron Man” suit.

“We’re working on a concept for the combat suit of the future,” Oleg Chikarev, deputy chief of weapons systems at the institute, told RT. “On display is our vision of the suit we would like to develop within the next couple of years. We’re also working with [Russian] companies specializing in various elements of combat equipment and we’re creating the features which, in our opinion, will help our soldiers carry out their missions on the battlefield.”

James Geurts of Special Operations Forces Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, told Military.com in February that TALOS is on its fifth prototype and will begin testing in summer 2018. TALOS aims to couple the benefits of an exoskeleton with the ability to instantly monitor a wide range biometric data. Survivability is part of what armor you are carrying, but it’s also a big part of whatever information you have, what is your situational awareness, how do you communicate. So as we are going down all those paths, we can leverage quickly some of the stuff that is ready to go right now.”
