The Royal Canadian Mounted Police has a requirement for a contractor to provide a tactical micro-UAV

The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services has issued a tender for the procurement of a Micro UAV system, multi rotor type. The contract is estimated to be between $250,000 and $500,000 for one Micro UAV system.

The contract includes the option to provide two additional UAVs with the same specifications by March 31, 2014.

The System will be used by the Ontario Provincial Police to record and obtain high resolution and professional quality still pictures and high definition videos for day and night investigation operations.

According to the RFP the UAV must be of a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL), multi-rotor air vehicle type with payloads for operation both in day time and nighttime and a touch screen operator station.

This procurement is a part of the Canadian RCMP National Procurement Plan for the fiscal year of 2012-2013. The RCMP is unique in the sense that it is a federal, provincial and municipal policing body. It provides a total federal policing service to all Canadians and policing services under contract to the three territories, eight provinces (except Ontario and Quebec), more than 190 municipalities, 184 Aboriginal communities and three international airports.

According to the RFP there is a preference to a Canadian product and services.
