Nano-Satellites For Communications Between Soldiers

The United States’ military, which is deployed around the world, is dealing with a difficult challenge to provide its soldiers and commanders in remote areas with the abillity to communicate amongst themselves as well as with military and security authorities located in the United States itself. In order to cope with this difficulty as best it can, the military’s top researchers have succeeded in developing nano-satellites to be launched into space in order to provide upgraded communication technology. Three nano-satellites are planned to be launced, thus offering communication solutions to soldiers stationed in remote, out-of-reach areas where communication would be otherwise impossible.

These tiny satellites cost around $500,000 per unit, they weigh about four kilograms and are no bigger than an ordinary loaf of bread or a football. After being launched into space these small satellites float at a speed of over 27,000 kilometer per hour with solar charged batteries. An executive of the project trusted with developing these new satellites said that “Providing the ability for our warfighter to communicate in an environment where traditional [satellite communication] is unavailable can literally be the difference between life and death.”

The war in the modern age is no longer that of two armies fighting each other, but has become a battle charactarized by sending forces to remote places, where the technological infrastructure is minimal, if it exists at all. It’s probable that the battlefield between the fighting forces will be in a desert or a mountain terrain in some faltering country such as Afghanistan or war-torn countries in Africa. The modern military is based on technological abilities of various kinds, and so there is a need for the fighting forces of the countries of the west to establish a suitable technological infrastructure to allow and assist them to function the best way possible way when facing the enemy.
