Amazon unveils Drone Store

Amazon has unveiled the Drone Store to cater for all our creative aerial needs.
According to ZD Net the online retail giant’s dedicated unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) section includes both recreational and photography-base drones, ranging in price from $99 to over $1,000. The Parrot Rolling Spider, for example, is a tiny, smartphone-controlled drone capable of flying both indoors and outdoors. The drone has a small camera embedded, and is able to take aerial shots from the sky. In comparison, a number of luxury drones with enhanced camera capabilities are also available for purchase in higher price ranges.
The Drone Store also offers a number of accessories for UAV enthusiasts, such as cases, batteries and propellers. A “Buying Guide” page and “Fly Responsibly” section links to advice for drone users, flying tips and safety codes provided by the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International and the Academy of Model Aeronautics.

While there is not a vast array of drones on offer yet, the new store does show that Amazon believes drones can go beyond its own lofty goals of UAV product delivery.
In December last year, Amazon announced the Prime Air project, which aims to eventually deliver customer packages by unmanned aerial vehicle. However, this isn’t yet a reality, and the online retail giant recently had to petition the US Federal Aviation Administration for permission to test Prime Air delivery drones at an airfield near Seattle.
As Amazon continues to research and develop these drones, the firm may face stiff competition due to Google and its recent unveiling of the Project Wing scheme — delivery aircraft designed by the Google X Lab.
