Innovative Technology for Maritime Target Detection

Magna BSP developed a special application for various maritime targets detection, such as swimmers, vessels, boats, etc.

One of the most complicated fields, if not the most complicated, for video analytics is the maritime field. For efficient region monitoring, as in land regions, we establish the normal situation of the initial constant image and then look for changes compared to the normal situation.

However, in the maritime field there isn’t an initial constant image due to sea-wave movements, which frequently cause changes to the normal situation. More than that, if we ignore the sea-waves movement in order to avoid false-alarms, we will not be able to detect swimmers, vessels or any other target in the maritime zone due to the problematic terrain.

The application is based on the human vision system. Each system is a combined pair of cameras (day or/and thermal) that create 3D vision with all the additional parameters (distance, velocity, size, height from the ground and more) and a sophisticated software that uses these parameters for full detection while simultaneously filtering false-alarms.

After a long development process, the company successfully created a sea-waves model that can detect swimmers within hundreds of meters with very high reliability and with few false-alarms. A floating head is enough for detection. In addition, the application is effective for land intruders that walk on breakwaters (the system filters waves that crash on the breakwater and detects the real targets).
