Technologies developed in Israel and implemented in some unmanned platforms used among other thing for Homeland Security applications, are helping GM to develop its autonomous car.
GM’s Cadillac division is the leading developer of autonomous cars and it expects to produce partially autonomous cars at a large scale by 2015. The American car maker predicts it will have fully autonomous cars available by the end of the decade.
The Israeli research center of GM in Herzeliya, is deeply involved in the program and is currently focusing on the following techniques – Smart Sensing and control & robotics.
A number of Israeli companies are contributing to the center’s development effort, and the knowledge that has been accumulated in Israel while developing unmanned air, land and sea systems, is of great value and very helpful.
Israel is considered a leading developer of unmanned platform for military usage, and these technologies are a major building block in developing all “building blocks” for the GM new wonder.
