For years now, two world views have been tussling in the international arena: Weak western democracies are on the defense against an Islamic dictatorial offensive and their unrestrained use of terror as weapon. A concrete example of the impotence of a “democratic superpower” was presented to the astonished world today. The U.S., in an unprecedented move, announced the mass closing of their embassies throughout the entire Muslim world and Israel following a “serious warning” of potential attacks, aimed at the end of Ramadan. It’s likely that the source of the alarm, serious or not, is the video posted by al – Qaeda leader, Ayman al – Zawahiri, the successor of mass murderer Osama bin Laden, calling on the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt to abandon the effort to implement democracy in their homeland and instead to act on the full implementation of Islamic laws.

Unfortunately, American leaders do not understand the concept of the Islamic world. They do not internalize the realization that to Arabs passive defense is a sign of weakness. They still do not realize that a mass shut down of their representatives in these lands to a verbal threat is a catastrophe. If this is how the U.S. reacts to words – what will it do when attacked with weapons?

One of the actions that Islamic terrorists plan to execute – according to western intelligence services – is the use of a miniature nuclear weapon, usually referred to as the “suitcase bomb” (a.k.a. Suitcase bomb mini-nuke, nuke Pocket, Backpack nuke). This atomic method of operation was developed by the United States and the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Thumbnail bombs were built into a suitcase or bag that could be worn by a single person. These atomic suitcases were handed to spies and inserted into the target countries, to be detonated by remote electronic or by satellite command transmission. Although they are still miniatures, these suitcase bombs can destroy entire cities and kill tens of thousands of civilians.

When the day comes, and this day is probably not far away, such a terrorist threat will threaten population centers anywhere around the world. So what exactly would the defensive of the U.S. be then? Eliminate all their strongholds and bases around the world, and shut itself up in complete isolation safely across the ocean?

This is the worst way to react to the Islamic worldview, which seeks to destroy all “infidels” and spread their unwavering belief that “there is no God but Allah” and “Muhammad’s law by sword”. A demonstration of a fearless offensive and of unwavering courage – those are the weapons that the free world’s countries must use to send an unequivocal message to Islamic terrorists and their leaders, and it should be loud and clear: DO NOT MESS WITH US! Such a message, for example, could be a multi-frontal assault by the United States – without warning – on Iran’s nuclear facilities combined with the purposeful bombing of Iran’s oil fields and refineries at Abadan.

In order to promote an American ‘offensive’ and not a ‘defensive’ worldview, aimed at saving the free world from the ravages of terrorism requires a different type of U.S. president, someone like President Theodore Roosevelt, whose policy to “Speak softly but Carry a big stick” still applies today, whether the West likes it or not.
